OkieNerd is friendly tech help for folks who don't speak computer, and we're expanding across Oklahoma and North Texas. We're looking for dependable, good-hearted people to be the face of OkieNerd in their own town. Set your own availability, keep the majority of every booking, and help your neighbors with the tech that drives them nuts.
OkieNerd is up and running in Lawton, helping real people with their everyday tech every week. We just launched Nerd on Call, our membership for folks who want a Nerd on standby, and our iPhone and Android apps are live on the App Store and Google Play. With the playbook proven at home and the apps in customers' hands, we're ready to take OkieNerd across the whole state, and we're genuinely excited about it.
Serving customers every week, with the playbook already proven in our home market.
Our new subscription puts a Nerd on standby for members, and means steady, repeat work for the team.
Our iPhone and Android apps are live on the App Store and Google Play, serving customers statewide.
The whole state is opening up at once, and the people who join now get to plant their flag first.
No server rooms, no enterprise jargon. You're helping regular folks with the stuff they use every day, patiently and in plain English.
Hop on a quick call and walk someone through their phone, laptop, email, Wi-Fi, or smart-TV trouble.
Show up, sit down next to someone, and fix it in person. This is where the trust gets built.
Cover the nearby towns that don't have their own Nerd yet, and grow your own territory.
Every booking takes a deposit up front and holds the customer's card, so the money is settled through the app and never negotiated at the door. When you finish, you hand them your phone: they confirm the work is done, add a tip if they want to, and the rest charges itself. You never ask anyone for money, and you never carry cash. You just do great work.
You keep the majority of every booking, and 100% of every tip. You see the split up front, no surprises, paid on every completed job. Customer tips are all yours, with no commission taken, paid out weekly.
You set your own availability. Open up the times that suit you in your own calendar. A few evenings a week or full-time, that part is your call.
Bookings come to you automatically. When you're marked available, customers book your open time directly, with sensible buffer times built in around each visit. You're not chasing work or cherry-picking jobs, if you're free, you get the booking.
Paid per completed booking. No clock to punch, no salary, no minimums. The customer pays up front through OkieNerd, so there's never an awkward money talk at the door.
You're independent. Your own tools, any reliable and presentable vehicle, and free to work elsewhere whenever you like.
We bring the customers. OkieNerd handles the brand, the booking, and the payments, so you focus on the fix instead of finding work.
You run your own schedule, but you're never on an island. Local Nerds are part of one real team that backs each other up.
You'll work inside our Google Workspace, with your own OkieNerd email and calendar and the shared tools the whole team runs on.
We get the team together regularly over Google Meet to share wins, swap fixes, and keep everyone pointed in the same direction.
Now and then we meet up in person, because the best teams actually know each other.
For Nerds who want to go above and beyond, there's the Charter Nerd Program, offered by invitation. Charter Nerds put real time into community outreach, like hosting free help sessions at libraries and senior centers and keeping OkieNerd cards on the counters of local businesses, and they earn a lower commission as they hit milestones along the way. The more you build your community's trust, the more of every booking you keep.
Every market on this map is hiring, Lawton included. Pick your town to see the ground a Nerd there covers: your own city and everything within 75 miles of it, in three travel bands. In-person help in every one of them is the goal, and the only thing standing between a town and its first house call is a Local Nerd who lives there.
Don't see your town on the map? Apply for the city nearest you and tell us exactly where you live. Every market reaches 75 miles in three travel bands, and those areas are built to overlap, sized around traffic, real drive times and how many people live where. Most of Oklahoma sits inside two or three markets at once, so if yours does, you tell us which queues you want to take bookings in.
Want to help OkieNerd grow where you live? Hosting a free help session at the library or senior center, taking a table at the county fair, leaving cards on the counter at your favorite donut shop, it's all welcome and never required. It's voluntary, it's purely upside for your own market, and we reimburse pre-approved out-of-pocket costs. Your time is always your own.
Start to finish usually takes about one to two weeks, depending on scheduling and how fast your background check clears. Here's the whole process.
Apply online. About five minutes. We ask what you can support and how you work. The answers are below.
We read it. A real person, not a filter. If it looks like a fit, we'll reach out to set up an interview.
Interview. A video chat to meet you and walk through the role together.
Background check, and we pay for it. Only after we've talked. Our customers invite us into their homes, so everyone is screened. You enter your details directly with our screening provider, never with us.
Onboarding, and you're live. We set you up with your OkieNerd account, Nerd HQ, and your calendar, plus a short orientation, and you're ready for your first booking. Want to rep the brand? Order OkieNerd gear at wholesale, shipped to you.
It takes about five minutes. We read every one, and we choose for character first.
Start your applicationThis page describes an independent contractor opportunity and is not an offer of employment. Local Nerds are independent contractors, not employees: you set your own availability, use your own tools and vehicle, and are free to work elsewhere. Compensation is a revenue share paid on completed bookings. Participation in optional brand or community activities is voluntary, and only pre-approved out-of-pocket costs are reimbursed. Nothing on this page guarantees any level of income or booking volume.
