Lawton is an Army town, and Army towns have a particular kind of tech problem: people arrive, set up a house in a week, and leave three years later. We do a lot of first-week Wi-Fi and TV setups for families reporting to Fort Sill, and a lot of final-week help getting everything unhooked, backed up and ready to travel. Out past town it changes character entirely. Around Medicine Park, Cache, Elgin and the Wichita Mountains, the problem is usually distance from the router and a house with thick walls, not the gear itself.
Southwest Oklahoma has a large retired-military population, and a lot of our favorite visits are with people who spent a career being extremely competent at something hard and are now being told by a phone that their password is wrong. That is not a you problem. We sit down, go at your pace, write things down if you want them written down, and we never talk down to anybody.
Our whole approach comes down to one idea: you should leave the visit more confident than when we arrived. Anybody can fix a thing and go. We would rather show you what we did and why, in words that mean something, so that next time you have a shot at it yourself. If you would rather we just handle it, that is fine too. But the offer is always open, and plenty of people take us up on it.
Our service area is a distance, not a state line. We measure straight-line miles from Lawton and the hourly rate steps up the farther we drive, which is how the drive gets paid for. Remote help is $39 for a 30-minute session. In-person visits start at $110 an hour within 25 miles of Lawton, $130 in the 25 to 50 mile band and $145 from 50 to 75 miles, because the higher rate is how we pay for the drive. There is also a Nerd on Call membership at $19.99 a month that includes two remote sessions and an in-person visit a year plus 20% off anything extra. You always approve the price before we start.
Yes, and it is a lot of what we do. Patient, one-on-one, at your pace, in plain English, with no sighing and no jargon. If you want to be taught rather than just fixed, say so when you book. That is the visit we like best.
No. We set things up, get them working and explain them; we do not open machines up to replace parts or recover data off a dead drive. When that is what the problem turns out to be, we say so and point you somewhere useful rather than billing you to discover it.
