Remote help today · Altus & the Southwest Corner

A Local Nerd for Altus

Altus, Blair, Olustee, Snyder, Frederick, Mangum, Hollis and the far southwest corner. Friendly, patient tech help, remotely today and face to face once we have a Local Nerd in the area.

Remote help is $39 for a 30-minute session, available in Altus today. In-person visits open here when we have a Local Nerd on the ground.

Remote help works in Altus today. In-person visits are coming.

A 30-minute remote session is $39 and handles most computer, phone, email, password and account problems without anybody driving anywhere. In-person visits open here as soon as we have a Local Nerd on the ground, and that is a real bottleneck rather than a marketing date. If that could be you, we would like to hear from you.

What we help with

If it plugs in and nobody can figure it out, we can help.

No jargon, no sighing, no making you feel silly for asking. We explain what we are doing while we do it, and we are glad to explain it twice.

Wi-Fi that reaches the whole house

The back bedroom with no signal, the guest network nobody can remember, the router hidden in a closet doing its best. Usually it is placement, not your internet plan.

TVs, streaming and “where did my channel go”

Streaming is genuinely confusing and there are too many apps. We will get it working and leave you with something you can operate without a manual.

Computers that have gotten slow or strange

Cleanups, updates, printers that stopped printing, files you cannot find, and backups so a bad day does not become a lost decade.

Phones and tablets, without the eye-rolling

New phone and everything is in the wrong place. We move it all across, sort the photos out, and make it readable again.

Sitting down and learning it properly

Ask us to slow down and we will. Ask us to write the steps out and we will. Learning it properly once beats calling somebody every month.

The printer. Yes, that printer.

Wireless printers are genuinely badly designed and it is not your fault. We will get it printing and scanning and leave it that way.

Smart home gear that actually behaves

Half of smart home gear gets installed by whoever sold it and explained to nobody. We make it work together and make sure the alerts reach you.

Scams, pop-ups and “is this email real?”

If something on the screen is trying to scare you into calling a number, that is the scam. We will clean it up and show you how to recognise it.

Altus, specifically

What tech help looks like around here.

Altus Air Force Base gives this market the same arrive-and-set-up-fast rhythm Lawton and Enid have, and a steady stream of families who need a whole household online in a weekend. Outside town, Jackson, Greer and Harmon counties are farm country with real distance between places, and the practical answer for a lot of households out here is a remote session today rather than a visit next week.

We love making it easy

Patient, unhurried help, especially for the 55+ crowd.

This corner of the state has a lot of people who have lived here their whole lives and are now being asked to do everything through an app. We think that is a reasonable thing to be annoyed about, and we are happy to be the ones who sit down and make it make sense.

Here is the thing we actually believe: technology is supposed to work for you, not the other way round. If something takes six steps and three passwords, that is a design failure, not a you failure. We are happy to be the ones who sit down, sort it out, and then show you how it works so it stays sorted. Ask us to go slower and we will. Ask us to write it down and we will. Ask us the same question next month and we will answer it the same way, without the sigh.

Where we go from Altus

Towns we reach in Altus & the Southwest Corner.

Our service area is a distance, not a state line. We measure straight-line miles from Altus and the hourly rate steps up the farther we drive, which is how the drive gets paid for. Buying this for a parent?

A lot of our calls come from a grown child, not the person who needs the help.

Somebody two states away is worried that Mom cannot get the TV back to normal, or that Dad keeps getting locked out of his email, and there is nobody nearby to just go and sit with them. You can arrange it for them. Book the session or gift a membership, we handle it directly with them at a time that suits, and you do not have to talk anybody through anything over the phone at nine at night.

Questions

Straight answers about Altus.

Is Altus open for in-person visits yet?

Not yet. Remote help is available today. In-person visits open when we have a Local Nerd here, and the waitlist is how you hear about it first.

Do you help Altus AFB families?

Yes. Getting a household set up quickly on arrival, and backed up and unhooked cleanly before a move, are both things we can handle in a remote session without waiting on anybody to drive out.

How much does tech help cost in Altus?

Remote help is $39 for a 30-minute session. In-person visits start at $110 an hour within 25 miles of Altus, $130 in the 25 to 50 mile band and $145 from 50 to 75 miles, because the higher rate is how we pay for the drive. There is also a Nerd on Call membership at $19.99 a month that includes two remote sessions and an in-person visit a year plus 20% off anything extra. You always approve the price before we start.

Do you help older adults in Altus with technology?

Absolutely, and we would rather you ask than struggle. No rushing, no talking down, no assuming you already know what a setting is. Tell us you would like to understand it rather than just have it fixed and we will teach you instead.

Are you a repair shop?

No, and it matters. We are a setup-and-support service: we get things working, connected and understood. We do not do board-level repair or data recovery on failed drives, and if that is what you need we will tell you plainly instead of charging you to find out.

Become a Local Nerd

We open a market when somebody local is ready to run it.

That is the honest bottleneck. Not demand, not geography: a Local Nerd who knows the area, likes people, and is good at explaining things. Set your own availability, keep the majority of every booking, and help your neighbors with the stuff they cannot get their heads around. See what the role involves or apply here.
