1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how OkieNerd, operated by Branden LLC (doing business as OkieNerd), collects, uses, and shares information when you visit our website, book a service, or use the Nerd on Call membership. In this policy, "OkieNerd," "we," "us," and "our" mean Branden LLC d/b/a OkieNerd. By using our website or services, you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Service.
This policy also covers the Nerd on Call membership: the account, address, billing, and visit information we handle to provide it, and how that information is shared with the Local Nerd who performs an in-person visit.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to help you and run the membership:
- Contact details you give us: your name, email address, and phone number.
- Service address and location: the street address where you want in-person visits. If you tap "Use my location," your browser shares your device's coordinates with us so we can fill in and confirm the address. We use your address and approximate coordinates to confirm you are within our 75-mile service area and to calculate your distance from the regional anchor city serving your area and any travel zone.
- Devices and visit details you tell us about: the kinds of devices you have, the help you need, your appointment requests and any notes you add, and your visit history with us.
- Account security: the PIN you choose for your member account. We store it in a one-way hashed (encrypted) form; we cannot read your PIN.
- Payment information: processed by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not collect or store your full card number. We keep limited billing status from Stripe (such as whether a subscription is active and the renewal date) and identifiers that link your account to your Stripe customer record. When you book a one-time visit, that includes an identifier for the payment method Stripe saves so we can charge the balance at the end of the visit (see Section 6).
- Website usage: standard technical and analytics data such as your device and browser type, pages viewed, and interactions, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies and analytics).
- Approximate location from your IP address: we look up the rough area your internet connection appears to be in, so the site can show you the local phone number for your part of Oklahoma. This is a city-level estimate only, it is not GPS, we never ask your device for its location, and we do not store the result.
- Theme and session preferences: we use your browser's storage to remember your light/dark theme choice for the session and to keep you signed in to your member account.
3. How we use information
We use your information to:
- Provide the membership and your included and extra visits;
- Confirm your service area, schedule appointments, and reach you about your visits;
- Process membership billing through Stripe and manage renewals and cancellations, including the early-cancellation adjustment described in our Terms;
- Provide support and respond to your questions, including by text where you have opted in;
- Operate, secure, and improve our website and services; and
- Comply with the law and enforce our terms.
4. Text messaging and consent
If you provide your mobile number and opt in, we may send you service-related text messages (appointment confirmations, scheduling, and replies to questions). Message and data rates may apply, and frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out at any time and HELP for help. Opting out of texts does not cancel your membership, and consent to texts is not a condition of purchase. We do not sell or share your mobile number or text-message consent with third parties for their own marketing.
5. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to run the site and understand how it is used. This includes Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, which help us measure traffic and the performance of our ads. These tools may set their own cookies and collect usage data subject to their own privacy policies. You can control cookies through your browser settings, opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on, and adjust ad personalization in your Meta account settings. We also use your browser's local and session storage for non-tracking purposes such as remembering your theme choice and keeping you signed in.
6. Payment processing
Membership payments and one-time visit payments are handled by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. When you enter card details, they go directly to Stripe; we never see or store your full card number. Stripe's handling of your information is governed by its own privacy policy, available at stripe.com/privacy.
Cards saved for a booked visit. When you book a one-time visit you pay a deposit and authorize a second charge at the end of the visit for the balance, any additional time and any tip. To make that possible, Stripe stores your payment method against a customer record we hold for you, and we keep only Stripe's identifiers for it, never the card number itself. What we store is limited to what is needed to complete that visit: a Stripe customer id, a payment-method id, and the amounts and status of the charges. If you book with us again using the same email address, we reuse the same customer record so you do not have to re-enter your card.
You can ask us to remove a saved payment method at any time by emailing hello@okienerd.com or calling 580.400.7475. Removing it does not cancel a booked visit or a balance already owed for work performed.
Your sign-off. At the end of a visit we record that you confirmed the work was complete, when you confirmed it, and anything you typed into the "something isn't right" box on that screen. That last item is read by our back office so we can call you about it, and it is not shared with anyone outside OkieNerd.
7. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the service:
- Local Nerds (independent contractors): when you book an in-person visit, we share the information needed to provide it (your name, service address, phone number, and a description of what you need help with) with the independent Local Nerd who covers your area. They may use it only to schedule and perform your visit, and their signed agreement with us contractually requires them to keep your information confidential and not to copy, retain, or disclose it. As we expand across Oklahoma and North Texas, your information is shared with the Local Nerd assigned to your area, not the whole network.
- Service providers who help us operate, such as Stripe (payments), our website hosting provider, Google Analytics and Meta (analytics and advertising measurement), and the mapping/geocoding service we use to look up and verify addresses (OpenStreetMap's Nominatim). Our approximate IP-to-city lookup runs on our own server using the free IP Geolocation by DB-IP database (CC BY 4.0), so your IP address is not sent to a third party for it.
- Legal and safety: when required by law, to respond to lawful requests, or to protect our rights, our customers, or the public.
- Business transfers: if our business is sold or reorganized, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
7a. Local Nerd applicants and contractors
If you apply to become a Local Nerd, we collect the information you submit with your application (your name, contact details, the devices and skills you tell us about, and your answers to our questions), notes from your interview, and the status of your screening. We use this information to evaluate your application, run the hiring process, and, if you join, to operate your work with OkieNerd (scheduling, dispatch, payouts, and support). Hiring and contractor records are kept as needed to meet legal, tax, and recordkeeping obligations.
Background checks are performed by a licensed, independent consumer-reporting agency (currently Checkr, Inc.) in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You provide your Social Security number, date of birth, and written authorization directly to that agency on its own secure pages. We never receive or store your Social Security number, your date of birth, or the report itself; we receive only the resulting status and the identifiers needed to link it to your application. The agency's handling of your information is governed by its own privacy policy.
Contractor payouts are handled by Stripe. Your bank account and tax details go directly to Stripe on its own secure pages; we do not collect or store your bank account number or taxpayer identification number.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you are a member and as needed to provide the service, then for a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, tax, accounting, and recordkeeping obligations and to resolve disputes. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
9. How we protect it
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including transmitting data over encrypted (HTTPS) connections, storing your account PIN only in hashed form, and limiting access. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to keep our systems current.
10. Your choices and rights
You can:
- Access or correct your account details by signing in or contacting us;
- Update your service address, phone, or email by contacting us;
- Opt out of texts by replying STOP, and limit cookies and analytics through your browser and the tools above; and
- Request deletion of your information, subject to records we must keep by law.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example, under the California Consumer Privacy Act) to know what personal information we hold, to request its deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell personal information. To make any request, contact us using the details below; we may need to verify your identity first.
11. Children's privacy
Our services are intended for adults and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Third-party links
Our website and messages may link to other sites and services we do not control. Their privacy practices are their own, and we encourage you to review their policies.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
